What a treat it was to have Jacky in my Greensboro studio last week!! She came in to create some ballet images. She wanted to know what I had in mind and then added, "I love to jump!" No spins, here. Just a lot of power in a petite package. Yep, that worked out great!
The studio recently purchased a professional dance floor that we can lay down so that Jacky had a familiar and safe surface to work on. The made her jumps more confident, and helped ensure that she landed safely after each graceful and powerful leap.
While ballet is certainly full of grace, don't be fooled. There is an immense amount of athleticism underlying all of that grace. You can look like you are floating effortlessly if you struggle to fly. Dance photography takes some iteration. We shoot and sometimes the photographer blows it and misses the moment. Sometimes, we hit the moment, but an arm or finger or toe isn't where we want it. And so we do it again. And again. And again. We shot for about 3-1/2 hours after warm-up, and Jacky had every bit of spring in her legs in her last jumps as her first Jete. It all shows in her stunning dance photography.
