You work hard on your art, more than most will ever know. Your art requires a photographer who understands that this is a collaboration; we are partners working together to create art of your art. Dance sessions are the only session on your day, so we have the time to create the incredible images that portray you at your absolute best. I will coach your turn‑outs, position and hands until we both say, "WOW!" The time we will spend also affords us the luxury of trying an idea to see if we can make something wonderful and unexpected.
Dance photography is a unique process that melds portrait, sports, product and fine art photography into one. We will work together to capture that ephemeral moment when everything is just as it should be. I understand the precision and nuance of dance and I will work with you tirelessly to achieve your goal.
The studio has a cork floor on pier and beam, providing a forgiving surface. Additionally, sections of Marley flooring can be rolled out as needed. We can also use my two‑acre outdoor space to create in the beauty of nature.
Whether you want to create your audition photos for an intensive or school, or to realize and celebrate your artistic soul; you will shine!
Like all my client relationships, each creative dance session begins with a studio tour and discussion of your artistic vision and goals. During this time we will map out any special requirements, come up with some ideas of where we will be creating, and what you will be wearing.
On the day of your session, the first 45‑60 minutes is dedicated to stretching and getting warmed up. You will be working, and we don't want any injuries. If you require more time than that, we can adjust your arrival time appropriately.
The creative session can easily last hours. For each pose we will work the lighting and your position to create the best possible representation of your artistic form. My job is to coach you to get your position to match your vision of the form; you decide when that vision is captured to your satisfaction. In the first couple of frames, we will get the lighting locked in and then we will finesse your position to create an image that captures your artistry and skill.
